On Tuesday afternoon, schoolchildren in Villars-sur-Glâne swapped their exercise books for bicycles. They were the first to set off along the Route du Soleil, ahead of the elite riders in the Tour de Romandie.

Then, at 4 pm, we swap a slice of cake for a biscuit bearing the Gottéron logo (from Saudan), or a dragon signed by the chocolatier Jorge Cardoso. In the distance, the drums begin to beat, and we all join in singing “Tous ensemble”.

In the end, these same schoolchildren will keep the Fribourg dream alive for a few more days. On Thursday evening, it’s the same again, but this time, the eyes of young and old alike will be sparkling.

Sprunger, Wallmark, Berra and their teammates will, once again, inspire these schoolchildren to aim higher and to get excited.

There are even rumours that they had the privilege of singing to them on 1 May… Has history come full circle?
